About this Photograph
After a busy night of astrophotography, I was enjoying the quiet solitude and beauty of Milford Sound far too much to abandon it in search of some sleep. I decided to set-up my camera and record a continuous set of exposures, lasting an hour, capturing the path of the stars across the sky with the well-known Mitre Peak featuring in the midground. Beech trees are prominent in the area and this one on the foreshore hangs over the foreground from the top of the frame. Moonlight provides wonderful natural lighting to the scene – illuminating the snow capped peaks and rendering the sky a deep blue. Not long after completing this sequence, night gave way to day and I was at last able to get some much-needed rest.
